Hello all...
Hope y'all had a great holiday? Mine was choked up trying hard to figure out ways and solutions to make our Environment better and friendlier.
Well, yesterday (22nd April 2014) went pretty......
Committee work properly started and my committee - the committee on Environment began deliberation some minutes pass 10am.
We brought up the thematic issues in our committee;
Meteorology
Illegal Mining Activities
Pollution
Gas Flaring
Protection of Biodiversity
Afforestation and Reforestation
Flooding/Gully Erosion
Environmental Degradation
Oil Spillage and Desertification
Drought
Waste management/Disposal
Hazardous/toxic Waste
Bush Burning
Natural Disaster
And any other Related Matters.
We discussed and deliberated on each.
It was an interesting session as those who are offbeat with environmental issues are beginning to catch up and those that feel atypical of the committee are deciding to changing their minds.
We decided that the 17 of us will break into sub committees, so that for every 5 topics, 4 people will draft a position paper.
We discussed so many Environmental issues that affects the Nigerian people; like the Ogoni, Makoko, Lake Chad and other issues of illegal mining in various states that poses serious danger to lives and properties, issues of grazing reserves that causes conflict amongst others.
The preventive measures to be taken were dully assessed
Little adjustment - We actually decided to lessen our break timing which used to be 2-4pm to 2-3pm in order to come back and work then close at 5pm instead of 6pm
...
After much deliberations, we adjourned at 5pm to resume the following day at 10am.
Other committees as well have began deliberations and like I said in my previous post, one can sent submissions to the other committees or even go and discuss with other committees. I am glad the committee on national security is directly opposite mine. I can always work in and out at my will to make contributions.
I am so far overwhelmed with my committee work, I know not what is happening in the other committees, but will find out for you.
See you soon...
