There's always another way..

As a delegate to the National Conference - the youngest of them all, i am humbled to be part of the process of making my country better, I am willing to make modest sacrifices so that my generation and generation yet unborn can live in better country.

The Federal Government has rationalized that delegates should be paid sitting allowances, in all honesty I am modestly comfortable and able to cater for my immediate needs. Some of my colleagues have indicated their intention not to receive the money which in itself is a pointer to the fact that we still have men and women with high redeeming qualities among us. However, I am not unmindful of the appalling poverty and great need that exists where I come from and the people I represent. We have a situation where widows and orphans have been abandoned by society, these are individuals made vulnerable by the insurgency. They have no idea how to pay the school fees of their children and wards, and how to eat at least once a day. We have a scenario where things we take for granted mean the world to others -physically challenged people who will never be able to afford wheel chairs and thousands of people who can't afford medical care because they are poor and have been injured by terrorists. I want them to consider my sitting allowance as a gift to them and humanity.

I do not do this for praise nor to look good in the eyes of the society, I am doing this because it is the right thing to do. I have received my first payment which is the sum of 1,460,000 naira yesterday evening (21st March 2014) from the National Conference. I hereby pledge to use my allowances as a seed grant and start a foundation that will cater for vulnerable women especially widows and children in Borno State, if you understand their hopeless and helpless state in Borno State and Northern Nigeria in general you will support me in this new drive to put a smile on their faces.

    1. If you had given someone at least N50.00, you had already given back. You don't need to have millions before you start.

  13. This is wonderful initiative. There's entrepreneurship development centre in Njimtilo Maiduguri initiated and funded by CBN to train youths, unemployed graduate, widow, orphan and physically challenge people in north east region. The training will give potential entrepreneurs insight and techniques on how to develop new business or expand existing business for sustainable development. For more details visit our office at Njimtilo... Thank you.

  14. This i least expect from any member of the confab....BUT you just turned my view and perception around. It is a very commendable effort and distinguished... May Allah SWT reward you for this initiative and support you in accomplishing it. It very heart touching that you not only remember your people at this time but will go this length in supporting/uplifting their standard of leaving. ....Well-done!!!

  15. I can only say, Well Done, my Sister. Your kind gesture is commendable. We must continue to beam light to the dark places. We must continue to inspire a generation coming, that can not find truly selfless Leaders (young or old) to adore in our localities and nation as a whole.

Let your contributions be humane. Let it be the voice of the voiceless and be the face of the faceless. The Peace of GOD shall be with you.

  17. Nice move, this is the kind of selfless service we need from all delegates. There is abject poverty in the land. No doubt your gesture will go a long way in easing the suffering of those who need that money most. Waiting for your next update as deliberations begin this morning!

  19. Job creation should be the priority. Get them trained and buy tools for them.

  20. A great sacrifice indeed. Life is all about giving and helping. The best of Us are those that will not allow their neighbours to go hungry when they have sufficient to provide for themselves and others.

  21. May Allah rewards u abundantly, I hope many of our delegates will do the same, especially those from the North East part of the country, Since am very optimistic that many of our delegates are middle class level, if not high class, so giving their allowances for charity, cant stop them from becoming what they want to become.

  23. Good luck, Y.
I wanted to do the conference, even asked around a bit about it.
I thought there might be money involved, but was really shocked how much money. Abuja mennn, so far from reality. The money some would spend in a lifetime is now "allawi" - allowance money - for three months of expenses. Ok o.
I won't really say that I would have given it away easily if it had been me. (It's a lot of money mannn, money that could really answer some burning questions in my life right now lol.) It's easy to tell others to do foundations and all, it's harder to do it yourself. Guess what I'm trying to say is props and God bless you for realizing how much that money can go in the lives of some other folks. I love learning from givers about better ways to give...Thanks.
